How to prepare a home pedicure step by step?
Foot care is not only about the aesthetics of nails during the sandal season. It is also the prevention of diseases of the feet and nail plates. See how to prepare a home pedicure step by step, which will be the same as in a beauty salon.
Pedicure – for beauty and health
The feet are an extremely sensitive spot on the body map. Did you know that your foot has 32 muscles, 26 bones, 120 ligaments and many nerve endings? Alternative medicine specialists prove that by performing an appropriate massage of the nerve endings in the foot, called reflexotherapy, they can help you solve the problem related to the internal organs. But let’s go back to the field of classical medicine and cosmetology … Regular pedicure will help you avoid growing blisters, ingrown nails or prickly heat. The aromatic foot bath in sparkling salts will allow you to relax and calm down.
You can do the pedicure yourself at home, using special tools, such as cuticle clippers or a set of nail files.
Step by step home pedicure
Below you will find my three-step recipe for a home spa and foot care routine.
Step 1: Foot and Heel Care
Iodine-bromine salt For this part of the pedicure you will need:
a bowl of water,
a handful of Bochnia salt,
a few drops of olive oil,
3 drops of orange essential oil,
coarse foot scrub,
polisher and heel grater.
Prepare a foot bath in a bowl of lukewarm water and add a handful of iodine-bromine salt (eg Bochnia salt), a few drops of olive oil and 3 drops of essential orange oil.
Iodine-bromine salt is a good source of trace elements and minerals. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties. Thanks to this, your legs will experience pleasant relief after the whole day. In addition, the coarse-grained structure of the salt will also exfoliate and soften dead skin cells. The presence of olive oil makes the skin of the feet softer, moisturized and elastic.
Orange essential oil has an aromatherapeutic (relaxes you) and antiseptic effect, getting rid of bacteria and impurities accumulated on the feet.
Keep your feet in the bath for about 10-15 minutes, then apply a coarse scrub to the softened skin of the heels and feet.
You can use a ready-made preparation bought in a drugstore, or you can peel yourself using a mixture of salt and olive oil.
After 5 minutes of scrubbing your feet, wash it thoroughly with water and clean your feet with a towel. Remove heels and calluses on the soles of the feet with a grater or heel polisher. Remember to remove the skin from the surface of the grater from time to time during this operation.
Step 2: Cuticle removal and nail shaping
Cuticle removal and nail shaping At this stage, you should have foot care accessories on hand:
a thick file for shortening nails or a nail clipper,
glass nail file,
wooden stick to remove the cuticles,
olive to soften the cuticles.
Go to the nails and move the cuticles away from the nail plate towards the base of the nail with a wooden stick.
If the cuticles are dry, moisten them with cuticle oil. Remember that removing dry cuticles can be painful and will lead to cuts or bleeding. Remove the peeled cuticles with a cuticle clipper. Do it gently, without wrestling with your own skin. It is better to cut out the dead skin in small portions, gradually so as not to cut out the living tissue.
After cleaning the nail plate, proceed to shaping it. First, the length – you can shorten the nails using a coarse file or nail clipper.
It is very important that you cut your nails evenly, without cutting them on the sides or “to the point”. This way, you can get problems with a painful, ingrown toenail. Then smooth the nail plate with a matte polish – do not rub your nails until warm. A couple of smoothing movements is enough.
The base for the varnish will help you deal with additional unevenness later.
Finally, use a glass file to shape your nails. Only glass in contact with a nail can generate a temperature high enough to close the plate and leave smooth edges.
Step 3: Painting your nails
Nail painting time to paint.
nail polish remover,
base for nail polish,
top coat for nail polish,
oil to accelerate the drying of nail polish,
oiling foot cream.
In order for the varnish and base to stay well and long on the nails, get rid of all oils and fats from their surface. Thoroughly degrease the nail plate with a remover, acetone or a special degreaser.
Place the separators between your toes, so as not to surprise yourself by destroying the freshly applied layer of varnish with your fingers.
Put on the nails, successively: the base for the varnish, 2 layers of varnish, and finish the whole with a layer of top coat, i.e. the hardener. Before applying each subsequent layer, you should wait about 5 minutes for them to set well.
If you are not sure if the layer is hard enough, you can gently touch it with the nail plate of your index finger. 5 minutes after applying the last layer, sprinkle the nails with olive oil to accelerate the drying of the nail polish. This way, the varnish will cure faster.
Another technique for hardening nail polish is to dip your nails in ice water. Regular nail polish dries faster at low temperatures. You won’t do anything by exposing your feet to the sun or putting them under a hot lamp.
After the nails are dry, grease your feet with a thick layer of foot cream, wrap them with a towel and let the cosmetic absorb for about 15-30 minutes.
And finally, my favorite activity of home pedicure – ask your man for a relaxing foot massage. After all, a pedicure is not only a treatment for the body, but also for the spirit.
